Track: Featured ADOT Session
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) partnered with the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) and US Forest Service (USFS) to plan and develop three wildlife crossings on two heavily travelled Interstate highway corridors in northern Arizona; Interstate 17 and Interstate 40.
The projects will ultimately construct three wildlife overpasses and associated wildlife fencing within ADOT right-of-way along I-17 and I-40. The AGFD and ADOT identified the project segments of I-17 and I-40 as “hot spots” for wildlife vehicle crashes in the Arizona Statewide Wildlife-Vehicle Conflict Study (2021) Final Report. New structures are proposed to provide an opportunity for wildlife, primarily elk, deer, and pronghorn and other wildlife species, to cross over I-17 and I-40 unimpeded by traffic.
