Dr. Handong Yao is an Assistant Professor in the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering (ECAM) at the University of Georgia. His research is mainly focused on developing cyber-physical transportation systems with smart infrastructure technologies (e.g., advanced sensing, communication, and automation), and using machine learning methods and traffic flow theory to improve system sustainability, safety, and efficiency. His works have been published by top transportation journals, such as Transportation Research Part A, Transportation Research Part C, Transportation Research Part D, Accident Analysis & Prevention, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems. Dr. Yao has also served as a guest editor (Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering), a session co-chair (the 2023 INFORMS Annual Meeting), and a reviewer in multiple peer-reviewed journals (e.g., TR part C/D/E, IEEE TITS, TRR) and conferences (e.g., TRB annual meeting).
