Francisca Kasubi is a Ph.D. candidate in Civil Engineering at Florida International University. She received her M.S. in civil engineering from the University of North Florida and her B.S. in civil engineering from the Ardhi University in Tanzania. She has contributed to various Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)-sponsored transportation research projects. Her research focuses on leveraging real-time data and utilizing data-driven, statistical, and machine-learning techniques to enhance highway safety and optimize traffic operations. Her expertise includes Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O), connected and automated vehicles, micro-simulation, traffic incident management, and large data analysis.
Francisca currently serves as the President of the FIU student chapters of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and Chi Epsilon (Civil Engineering Honor Society), and as Secretary for the Tau Beta Pi Broward/Palm Beach Alumni Chapter. She previously served as President of the Florida Engineering Society (FES) student chapter for the 2023–2024 academic year and the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) student chapter for the 2022–2023 academic year. Additionally, she is actively involved with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).
In line with her professional pursuits, Francisca is passionate about mentoring the young generation and loves volunteering in the community. She aspires to create a lasting impact and drive positive change for a more equitable and progressive future in transportation and STEM industries.
