Hellen Shita is a Ph.D. candidate in civil engineering at Florida International University. She received her bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Ardhi University in 2019 and her master's in engineering from Tennessee State University in 2022. Her research focuses on leveraging technology and data-driven solutions to improve roadway safety and mobility. Her research also includes the application of traffic simulation, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), large data analysis, and machine learning in solving transportation challenges. She has worked on projects from the Tennessee, Florida, and South Dakota Departments of Transportation. Hellen currently serves as the president of the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS), treasurer of the Florida Engineering Society (FES), professional development chair for the Tau Beta Pi Honors Society, and secretary-treasurer for the Chi Epsilon Honors Society student chapters.
