Osama Abaza, PhD, is a highly experienced Professor of Civil Engineering with a 36-year background encompassing academia and industry. He currently holds a faculty position at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), where he has been an integral part for 16 years. Dr. Abaza earned his doctorate at Brigham Young University-Utah (BYU) and completed his master's and undergraduate degrees at the University of Toledo-Ohio (UT).
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Abaza has made significant contributions to civil/transportation engineering, specializing in traffic engineering, safety, pavement engineering, and sustainable materials. He has held roles as Department Chair, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, and CEO of a consulting firm, providing valuable insights into practical applications.
Additionally, Dr. Abaza serves as an Associate Director for the Pacific Northwest Transportation Consortium (PacTrans), a USDOT University Transportation Center (UTC) for Federal Region 10.
With a substantial publication record, Dr. Abaza's research currently focuses on cold region transportation, encompassing traffic safety, driver behavior, pavement design, structural assessment, sustainable cold-region materials, economic evaluation of pavement structures, and climate change impacts on roadway infrastructure.
