Dr. Kumar completed his Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee in 2017. His doctoral thesis focused on the development of warm stone matrix asphalt. Prior to his Ph.D., he earned an M.Tech in Transportation Engineering from IIT Guwahati in 2012 and a B.Tech in Civil Engineering from CUSAT-Kochi in 2010.
With over a decade of academic and research experience, Dr. Kumar has held positions at several prestigious institutions. Before joining CSIR-CRRI in February 2021, he served as an Assistant Professor at NIT-Jalandhar and has also taught at JECRC-Jaipur and institutions in Pune.
Dr. Kumar's research interests encompass various aspects of transportation engineering, including flexible pavement design and maintenance of hot mix asphalt, warm mix asphalt, and cold mix asphalt. He specializes in pavement material characterization, reclaimed asphalt pavement, Superpave mix design, and the tribology of asphalt binders.
A prolific researcher, Dr. Kumar has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented his work at international conferences. He has contributed to books and book chapters in his field. Dr. Kumar is actively involved in guiding Ph.D. scholars and has supervised multiple postgraduate dissertations.
Dr. Kumar has led and participated in significant research projects, including a study on the green road approach in Indian road construction and a tribological approach to characterize warm mix binders. He is also a team member in a major project funded by the National Highways Authority of India.
As a recognized expert in his field, Dr. Kumar has delivered keynote lectures at various conferences and workshops, addressing topics such as highway construction materials, asphalt mixtures, and sustainable road construction.
Dr. Kumar is a life member of the Indian Road Congress, demonstrating his commitment to the advancement of road engineering in India. His work continues to contribute significantly to the field of transportation engineering, particularly in the areas of pavement design, maintenance, and sustainable road construction practices.
