Dr. Abu Sufian is Pavement Research Engineer II of ARA’s Transportation Infrastructure Division (TID) Research Technology Deployment and Consulting Service (RTDCS) Group. He is a key research engineer of ARA’s pavement materials, nondestructive pavement evaluation and AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design (PMED) development team. Before joining ARA, Dr. Sufian served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institute of Advanced Transportation Technology (NIATT) at University of Idaho. There he supervised students with asphalt mixture and binder testing. Dr. Sufian obtained his PhD from the Modified Asphalt Research Center (MARC) lab at University of Wisconsin Madison. During that course of his PhD, Dr. Sufian has performed numerous BMD performance tests and associated data analysis. Over the past eight years, Dr. Sufian has led, assisted, managed, and participated as a researcher, technical analyst, scientific developer, and instructor in a wide variety of projects that included experimental design, data collection and analysis, field sample collection and condition surveys, specifications development, analytical and statistical modeling. Dr. Sufian instructed two courses on pavement materials and mechanics of materials for the students at the University of Wisconsin Madison and Kansas State University. He has been the author and coauthor of more than 20 technical articles and reports related to pavement materials, pavement design, pavement maintenance and nondestructive evaluation.
