Madhumita Paul is an Assistant Professor in Transportation Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. Before joining IIT KGP in May 2022, Madhumita worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay from Dec 2020 to April 2022. She received her Masters degree in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, India, and her PhD in Transportation Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, India, in 2020. She completed her B.Tech in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala, India, in 2012.
Madhumita's PhD research topic: “Investigation of Surrogate Road Safety Measures for Safety Assessment at Intersections.” She has developed several conflict-based safety indices pertinent to crash probability and expected severity outcomes by observing real-time vehicle-vehicle interactions at intersections under highly heterogeneous Indian Traffic. Her multi-simulation-based suggestive engineering countermeasures were appreciated by several concerned agencies and installed in different intercity highways of NCR and various intersections of New Delhi for road safety improvement.
