Intern Undergraduate II
National Renewable Energy Lab
Monument, CO, United States
Todd Osborn is an undergraduate student at Colorado School of Mines studying electrical engineering and currently interning at the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL). At NREL, Todd has been part of the Infrastructure Perception Control Lab, where he has worked with technologies like camera, radar, and lidar systems to support research aimed at improving safety for both drivers and pedestrians. His experience with sensing technologies has provided him with insight into the challenges of visibility and awareness in roadway environments, especially at intersections and crosswalks where obstructions and distractions often create safety risks. This background also led to his involvement in exploring the potential of addressable LEDs as programmable, dynamic lighting systems that can deliver immediate visual cues in real-world traffic applications. Todd hopes that his work with sensing and perception systems influence this research on enhancing roadway infrastructure through addressable LED lighting.
