Dr. Surya Teja Swarna is a Research Scientist at the Center for Research and Education in Advanced Transportation Engineering Systems (CREATES) at Rowan University. He is currently working on multiple projects funded by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), focusing on pavement management systems. Additionally, he is developing a low-cost pavement management system for cities and boroughs in New Jersey. Surya is also working on a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Climate Challenge Project on the utilization of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to promote sustainability in New Jersey’s pavements. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, where he was part of the Advanced Road & Transportation Engineering Lab (ARTEL) research group and explored the impact of climate change on pavement design and materials in Canada.
