Dr. Tom V. Mathew, Institute Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Civil engineering, has a specialization in Transportation Systems Engineering. He is actively involved in teaching, academic research and development sponsored by the government and industry. Prof. Mathew completed Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, in 1991. He completed the Master of Technology and Doctorate in Transportation engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. His current research interests include traffic flow modelling and simulation, traffic signal control systems, transportation network design, intelligent transportation systems, and road safety. He is currently teaching undergraduate and post graduate courses in transportation systems engineering and supervising several post-graduate and doctoral thesis. He completed several sponsored and industry related projects in this area and has several publications in international journals. He also held several administrative positions including the Dean of Infrastructure Planning and Support at IIT Bombay.
