Dr. Wesley Cook, P.E. is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, New Mexico. He holds a BS (2006), MS (2010), and PhD (2014) in Civil Engineering. Dr. Cook has a variety of experiences from his work as an assistant professor and a consulting engineer. As a researcher and consulting engineer he has experience using GIS, he is familiar with bridge inspection practices, and AI object detection to assist with culvert inspections. As an undergraduate researcher he assisted in developing methods and procedures with bridge inspection research at New Mexico State University (NMSU), and through his graduate studies at Utah State University (USU). As a researcher at NMSU’s Center of Transportation Research, Dr. Cook was instrumental in creating and completing a virtual reality bridge inspection project. In this capacity, he was trained and performed routine bridge inspections. As a graduate student at USU, Dr. Cook performed research in the area of bridge risk assessment and bridge management presenting at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and in journal publications. Dr. Cook has continued developing a body of knowledge in bridge risk assessment using the NBI and bridge inspection that can be tailored to culvert data collection and inspections. Dr. Cook is a Co-PI in the NMDOT CAMP.
