Curtis O’Malley received a BS in civil and a BS in architectural engineering from Drexel University. After which he completed a MS and PhD at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2007 and 2011 respectively. He has work as a faculty member at New Mexico Institute of mining and Technology since 2012, and currently hold the title of Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Curtis O’Malley established the mechanical engineering outreach program at New Mexico Tech (NMT) in 2015. He maintains externally funded sponsorship of the program that has grown in 2023 to support 1,000 k-12 students with activities and robotics supplies, with content and curriculum developed by 3 graduate and 12 undergraduate students on average each year. Our mission is to promote interest in STEM education at all skill levels through projects and competitions.
Students in his outreach lab focus on developing low cost robotics and sensor system activities for rural NM school districts. The NMT students in his lab work on a diverse set of robotics, sensing, automation projects for agencies such at NMDOT, NASA, Industry, and DOE.
