Nazmul Hasan M Eng P Eng is Principal Track Expert – AtkinsR. Prior to joining SNC-Lavalin, Hasan joined Bangladesh Railway (BR) under BCS Cadre Service and served in several capacities including positions as Track Engineer, Bridge Engineer, Designer, and Planner. He has over 30 years of professional experience in both light and heavy haul railway. His inventory of experience includes design and construction supervision of ballasted and slab track, derailment analysis, maintenance manual and specification preparation, design review, small consultancy, work method statement, rectification procedure etc. While serving in Bangladesh Railway, Hasan did his masters from Newcastle University, Australia by research in 1995. He did a research study on Travel time savings in the city of Newcastle.
Prior to immigration, Nazmul served as a consultant with Canarail (a Canadian company) for five years on Jamuna Rail Link Project. After coming to Canada Hasan joined Bombarider under co-op program in Ontario and served Bombardier as flight engineer! Since 2006 he has been employed by SNC-Lavalin in Vancouver, Canada. He prepared the maintenance manual of Canada Line.
Hasan worked on many LRT projects e.g., Canada Line, Evergreen line, Confederation line, Calgary West and XRT LRTs, Edmonton North LRT, Eglinton Line, Trillium line, REM, and many consulting assignments.
Hasan authored over thirty seven journal and peer reviewed conference e.g., JRC, ICTD papers on track design issues. He published papers in ASCE journals – Journal of Transportation Engineering, Parts A:Systems (JTEA), Journal of materials in Civil Engineering (JMCE), Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction (PPSDC); Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit (JRRT), UK; Sage journal Advances in Mechanical Engineering, UK; International Journal of Advanced Research Engineering (IJARE), Iran; SAGE journal Advances in Mechanical Engineering(AIMS),UK
Hasan is a registered professional engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC), Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) in Canada.
