Dr Emile Horak is consulting engineer specializing in road and airport engineering. He obtained his first to highest engineering qualifications from the University of Pretoria. He also studied at the Universities of California, Berkeley and UNISA. His career started in technology transfer and research implementation at the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), which remained his passion throughout his career as a pavement engineer. He had a short stint with a major contractor developing toll concessions and design-build-operate opportunities. He established himself as specialist consultant, and as such contributed to a number of mediation and arbitration cases on roads, materials and airports. He spent ten years as Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Pretoria. His researcher status is recognized nationally and internationally, and he has more than 300 papers, journal articles and peer-reviewed conference papers to his credit.
