Highway Research Engineer
Federal Highway Administration
McLean, Virginia, United States
I'm a Technical Manager in the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Research and Development for Safety and Operations, managing the Cooperative Driving Automation (CDA) research program. I oversee the development of various proof-of-concept CDA use cases (e.g., platooning, cooperative/shared perception, speed harmonization, cooperative signals/intersections, work zones, and emergency response). I then work with standard development organizations (SDOs), vehicle manufacturers, and federal, state, and local agencies to (1) develop standards, (2) understand system and individual level benefits, and (3) prepare the infrastructure for future automated vehicle needs. I do all this with the vision that one day, through providence, patience, and hard work, we will have a transportation system where congestion and crashes are a thing of the past.
