David Newman is the Director of Engineering Operations and has been acting Director of the Engineering Materials and Structural Testing Lab for the last six years for the OPUS College of Engineering at Marquette University. He received his degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1997 and has twenty-seven years of experience in structures and materials testing. Mr. Newman’s areas of expertise include fixture design, full-scale structural testing, and instrumentation. He supervised the inaugural work with the heavy vehicle simulator while testing glass Solar Pavers. Mr. Newman has also worked with other faculty on instrumenting flexible perpetual pavements, early opening of concrete pavements, and several projects funded by WisDOT. He has taught courses in Civil Engineering Materials and Geotechnical Engineering at Marquette University and has been an advisor, primarily for Concrete Canoe and Concrete Strength, to the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers for over 18 years. Mr. Newman is also past president of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Concrete Institute.
