Dr. Omar Thomas received his B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad. His postgraduate degrees are also in the field of Civil Engineering, having obtained a M.Eng. degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, USA, and a Ph.D. degree from Florida State University, Tallahassee, USA. Dr. Thomas has several years’ experience in both industry and academia, having had work experiences as a Civil Engineer at Jentech Consultants Ltd., Jamaica, and as Lecturer at Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey, USA. His area of expertise is in Transportation and Civil Engineering Management and has conducted research and has publications in Transportation Infrastructure Management, particularly as it relates to the preservation of bridge and pavement structures. More recently, Dr. Thomas has also conducted research in Traffic Studies and Electric Mobility. Dr. Thomas is the Director of TranCivEngineering Consultants Ltd. He is a Professional Engineer and member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Jamaica Institute of Engineers (JIE). He is also currently the Deputy Dean of Outreach, Internationalization and Marketing for the Faculty of Engineering at The University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica, where he also lectures and conducts research.
