Shenghua Wu, Ph.D., P.E., LEED AP, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Coastal, and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Alabama. He teaches a variety of lower and upper-level courses in engineering and has conducted research in STEM education, standards integration, and sustainability in civil engineering. Dr. Wu has developed engineering curricula that incorporate plastic circularity and has successfully secured over $8 million in research funding through competitive grants from organizations such as NOAA, EPA, NIST, and DOT. Dr. Wu holds several leadership roles, including Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Sustainable Engineering (ICSE),Executive Director for Gulf Coastal Environmental Equity Center (GCEEC), Director of the Solid Waste Sustainability Hub, Director of the Gulf Coast Center for Addressing Microplastics Pollution (GC-CAMP), and Director of the Sustainable Asphalt Materials Laboratory. He is the founding faculty advisor for the Society of Sustainable Engineering (SSE). Additionally, he has served multiple times as a reviewer for NSF, DOE, NOAA, and the National Academies.
