Tufuor is an assistant research professor at the Auburn University Transportation Research Institute. Tufuor received his Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and holds a master’s in Transport Planning and Engineering from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. He has over 8 years of transport policy and planning experience at the Ghana Ministry of Roads and Highways an equivalent of a US Federal Highway Administration. Tufuor is a member of the Transportation Research Board’s Committee on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service.
Tufuor has led and supported several federal and state DOT-funded projects with a focus on highway safety and intelligent transportation system analysis and a total budget of over US$ 2 million. Tufuor and Rilett are currently the principal investigators for two 2023 FY High Priority CMV grant-funded projects that are on schedule and budget with no project delays. Tufuor’s research has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed articles published in the Transportation Research Record Journal of TRB. His research on the application of recent technology in intelligent transportation systems has been nationally and internationally recognized. He received the 2019 Best Paper Award from the TRB Highway Capacity and Quality of Service Committee, the 2018 International Highway Engineering Exchange Program Award, and the 2018 Intelligent Transportation Systems Heartland Research Award. The American Society of Civil Engineers recently selected his technical paper on a roadway system performance as one of the ASCE Editor’s Choice for the Transportation and Development Institute and he was nominated for the ASCE prestigious Arthur Wellington Prize award for 2022.
