Joe Simon manages the Research Partnerships & Innovation team at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He is a project manager focusing on energy analysis and complex system evaluation. To enable market impact and growth, he continuously supports several DOE-funded solar startups by coordinating validation activities, equipment testing, feasibility studies and other activities that leverage unique lab capabilities for the benefit of small businesses. In addition, he helps to manage student design competitions, policy development for disaster resiliency, and industry guidance for solar tools and datasets. He leads several cross-cutting research projects and the solar manufacturing & competitiveness portfolio at NREL.
A licensed Architect in Colorado, Joe previously served on the board of directors for Levitt Pavilion Denver, helping to build an open air amphitheater in Denver hosting 50 free concerts per year. He is passionate about creative solutions for energy use and production, from studying occupant behavior to reimagining building design and construction.
