Akash Bajaj is a PhD candidate in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois with over eight years of experience in pavement engineering. His research focuses on sustainable asphalt pavement design, recycling agents, and crack mitigation for airfield pavements. He has worked on high RAP (50%) asphalt blend performance as part of a federally funded project at Texas A&M during his Masters, establishing guidelines for using higher recycled content in pavements. Akash has received several awards, including the 2024 Ward K. Parr Scholarship, the 2023 Graduate Research Award for Public-Sector Aviation Issues, and the 2022 Illinois Asphalt Pavement Association Scholarship. Currently, he leads an FAA-sponsored project to integrate cracking tests into the FAA standards for balanced mix design.
