James "Jay Jay" Rawson became interested in the field of transportation due to the unfortunate death of their brother in a cycling crash in 2016. A few years after this tragedy, Jay Jay attended the University of New Mexico to pursue a degree in civil engineering. In the process of pursuing their bachelor's degree, Jay Jay met Dr. Ferenchak and learned more about the field of transportation, and more specifically research in transportation engineering. They became their ITE student chapter VP and later graduated from UNM Cum Laude, at which point Jay Jay was invited back to pursue an MS in transportation engineering. Presently, Jay Jay works on a project alongside Drs. Ferenchak, Losada-Rojas, and Habib to understand human factors of cycling and how to quantify stress and mental workload using eye tracking.
