Ms. Margarita Ordaz is a Research Civil Engineer in the Airfields and Pavements Branch at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2019 and her master’s degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University in 2023.
At ERDC, Ms. Ordaz serves as the Principal Investigator for multi-scale research projects that focus on the geotechnical aspects of transportation infrastructure to help explain complex phenomena and predict behavior of transportation systems. Ms. Ordaz has developed guidance criteria for geotechnical site investigations to support military airfield design and construction. She has also developed innovative route assessment capabilities that aid military decision makers in contingency operations. She is currently leading efforts to improve military airfield and roadway drainage methods to mitigate damage and expand the life expectancy of transportation infrastructure.
