Dr. Kwon completed his M.S. and Ph.D. at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Kwon joined the KSU as an Assistant Professor in 2016. Professor Kwon’s specialty areas are testing and modeling of unbound granular materials, geosynthetics in pavements and railroad tracks, modeling of pavement structure using Finite Element methods, mechanistic-based pavement design, and nondestructive evaluation of pavement structural condition. Professor Kwon has 9 years of industry experience with Tensar International Corporation in the areas of geotechnical and pavement engineering. He is an active member of the TRB Standing Committee on Stabilization of Geomaterials and Recycled Materials (AKG 90) and Standing Committee on Geosynthetics (AKG 80), and the ASCE Geo-Institute Pavements Committee, He is a registered professional engineer in Georgia and Texas.
