Scientist
CSIR-Central Road Research Institute
New Delhi, Delhi, India
Dr. Aakash Gupta is a distinguished scientist currently serving at the Pavement Evaluation Division of the Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) in New Delhi. With a PhD in Civil Engineering from Jaypee University of Information Technology, Solan, and an M.Tech in Transportation Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, Dr. Gupta has built a robust academic foundation that underpins his professional expertise.
His research interests are diverse and comprehensive, spanning from the structural evaluation of roads using Falling Weight Deflectometer to the application of soft-computing techniques in civil engineering. He has a particular interest in ACN-PCN method of airfield evaluation, quality audit of highways, road asset management systems, highway design and maintenance strategies, pavement maintenance management systems, and pavement material characterization.
Before joining CSIR-CRRI, Dr. Gupta held academic positions at Jaypee University of Information Technology, Solan, where he was involved in both teaching and research.
As a member of various CSIR-CRRI committees, Dr. Gupta has been instrumental in shaping the institute's technical and strategic direction. Dr. Gupta has led and contributed to numerous research and consultancy projects at CRRI, including the development of a Pavement Structural Health Index for network-level evaluation of flexible pavements and assessing the suitability of Imperial Smelting Furnace Slag as a construction material in flexible and rigid pavements. He has also been involved in the development of an Airfield Pavement Management System for ten airports in India, among other significant projects.
A prolific scholar with a number of research papers, Dr. Gupta has published extensively in journals and conferences. His work includes research on economic analysis and prioritisation of non-core roads in India, development of road roughness models, and the implementation of airfield pavement management systems in India, to name a few.
In addition to his research and consultancy work, Dr. Gupta has guided 10 M.Tech students in their dissertations, further demonstrating his commitment to nurturing the next generation of civil engineers.
