Deputy Director of Planning & Engineering
Piedmont Triad Airport Authority
Greensboro, North Carolina, United States
Started in the aviation industry as Airfield Civil Engineering Associate right out of college after taking a class in Airport Design at NC State University. Worked for a number of years as a consultant in numerous capacities. Focused on airfield engineering for the first few years, runways, taxiways and aprons in general, from mill and overlays and surface treatments to full rehabs and new pavements. Had the opportunity to perform inspection services on a few of the designs I was a part of and learned the difference between what can be designed vs what can be constructed.
After a few years I switched over to focus more on the stormwater design of the airfield projects and continued in the avaition industry in that capacity, learning the nuances of stormwater requirements in the different jurisdictions of the projects.
The door opened to switch over to the other side of the table, leaving consulting and joining the airport operator's side and I decided to try it out, joining the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority at GSO in 2022 as a project manager. In this role I managed flat work and verticle work, drinking from the firehose and learning as much as I could about projects that aren't flat and straight but actually come up out of the ground. At the beginning of 2024 I was given the opportunity to step into the role of the Deputy Director of Planning and Engineering at GSO, doing more of the same, but with more responsibility.
