Reginald R. (Reg) Souleyrette (soo-lah-ret), Ph.D., PE, F.ASCE, is Chair, Department of Civil Engineering and Commonwealth Professor of Transportation Engineering at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Souleyrette has 30 years of experience as an educator, researcher and administrator. His research interests include transportation safety, information systems, planning models and railroad engineering. He has authored over 200 papers on a broad range of transportation topics and led over 100 projects sponsored by federal, state, local and private agencies and valued at over thirteen million dollars. These projects have supported Souleyrette’s graduate students helping them to earn over 70 advanced degrees. Dr. Souleyrette is a Fellow of both the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Association of Traffic Safety Information Systems Professionals. He is a 30-year member of the National Academies’ Transportation Research Board (TRB) where he served in a variety of leadership roles including Chair of Data and Information Technologies, the largest section of committees of TRB, chair of the Geospatial Information Sciences Committee, and at-large member of the Safety and Systems Users Group Executive Board. He currently serves as at-large member and Communications Coordinator of the newly formed Data and Data Science Section. Souleyrette also served as chair of ASCE’s national committee on Transportation Planning. He earned BS and MS degrees from the University of Texas and a PhD in civil engineering (transportation) from UC Berkeley and is a registered Professional Engineer in Iowa and Kentucky.
