Mohammad is a Ph.D. student at the Illinois Center for Transportation, working under the supervision of Professor Imad L. Al-Qadi. Mohammad's research focuses on transportation safety and he is working on developing an automated and contactless method that can acquire pavement texture at highway speeds using images captured from cameras. Mohammad is also working on creating accurate learning-based models that can predict pavement friction from texture data as well as others. The ultimate goal is to deploy these techniques in routine inspections using advanced equipment and at a lower cost compared to state-of-the-art laser scanners. Mohammad intends to pursue a career in academia and research after completing his Ph.D..
