Now serving as vice president & partner at American Structurepoint in Indianapolis, Mike McBride spends the majority of his time providing guidance to state and local governments on infrastructure based, community and public safety enhancements that improve quality of life. He began his career in 1994 in construction management but quickly transitioned into transportation system design while obtaining a Civil Engineering degree from Purdue University, which he completed in 1997. In 2001, Mike was appointed City Engineer of Carmel, Indiana by Mayor Jim Brainard and served in that role for 13 years. Mike left the employment of the City of Carmel in 2014 to become a VP at Indianapolis based American Structurepoint, where he has focused for the last 10 years on helping local governments enhance their communities by reimagining their built environment. With this diverse background, Mike is experienced in all aspects of municipal engineering, public administration, transportation planning, and infrastructure funding.
For the last 25 years, the use of roundabouts to bolster the safety and efficiency of roadway networks has been a passion of Mike’s. His appreciation for this ultra-safe intersection type led him to select roundabouts as the preferred intersection improvement type for the City of Carmel and subsequently oversee the design, funding, and construction of hundreds of roundabouts not just within the City of Carmel, but all around the country. His specialized experience in economic development, traffic analysis, safety integrated transportation design, public policy, public education and outreach, sustainability & maintenance, public project funding, right-of-way acquisition, utility coordination, capital program management, and municipal budget management has made him a recognized national expert in municipal infrastructure and especially roundabout deployment.
