Dr. Soroosh Amelian is a subject-matter expert in asphalt materials and pavement engineering, holding a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His academic background includes Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Civil Engineering, with research focused on the sustainability and mechanical performance of asphalt materials. Since 2020, he has worked as a Roadway Materials Engineer with Caltrans. Currently, he supervises the Asphalt Binder and Hot Mix Asphalt Central Lab, managing key programs to ensure quality assurance and compliance in asphalt materials for California’s projects.
Before joining Caltrans, Soroosh contributed to significant initiatives at the Michigan Department of Transportation, enhancing pavement remaining service life estimation and engaging in innovative research. His work at the Mid-America Transportation Center led to the development of a concurrent mechanistic pavement-mixture design approach, validated through full-scale testing. A Professional Engineer in California, Soroosh has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented at various conferences, demonstrating his commitment to advancing industry practices and improving infrastructure quality and safety.
