In 2019, Reza received his Ph.D. in the field of pavement engineering from USM in Malaysia. His PhD was awarded with the best PhD thesis of the year. Since then he has been working at the University of Antwerp as a full-time doctor assistant and postdoc researcher where he has 50% teaching and 50% research mandates. For his teaching together with Dr. Georgios Pipintakos, they received the CIKO prize for innovation and quality in education in the 2020-2021 academic year. Reza identifies himself as a pavement material scientist and works on several topics including bituminous materials and mixtures characterization, aging, WMA, RAP, etc. using different technologies. Reza currently performs research ranging from paving material characterization, incorporation of RAP/secondary materials, construction of climate resilient pavements, High-albedo materials, urban heat island (UHI), developing photocatalytic pavements to eliminate/reduce toxic emissions as well as employment of advanced/smart monitoring technologies particularly during paving operations to deliver high-quality/more durable pavements.
