The PI, Dr. Nishantha Bandara, P.E., has extensive experience in pavement evaluation, pavement deflection testing, structural modeling, design, life-cycle cost analysis, and research. He has successfully delivered multiple MDOT research projects in the recent past. Dr. Bandara is an expert in pavement engineering with more than 24 years of experience. Before joining LTU, Dr. Bandara worked at MDOT’s Metro Region office for over six years and at Dynatest Consulting for 6 years. At Dynatest, he has led multiple projects with State DOTs, airport agencies, and international highways agencies incorporating FWD testing, IRI testing, GPR testing, and distress evaluation for network level and project level decision making. He has a thorough understanding of statistical techniques used in sampling and hypothesis testing. Dr. Bandara will use his FWD, IRI, GPR, distress data collection, and MDOT experience to lead the project successfully. Dr. Bandara was a past member of the TRB committee AFD80 structural modeling and evaluation of pavement sections and a current member of AKR40 winter maintenance.
