Dr. David Jones has over 30 years of academia and consulting experience with in‐place and cold central plant recycling (CCPR), and the use of various recycled materials in pavement applications, and is recognized nationally and internationally for this work. He oversees all pavement recycling and recycled materials research at the UCPRC, and is responsible for facility operations including the laboratory and accelerated pavement testing units. He has served as a PI or Co‐PI on multiple projects for the FAA, NCHRP, state departments of transportation, and other State departments. Dr. Jones has published widely on cold recycling, including the writing of comprehensive guidelines for in‐place and cold central plant recycling for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), which covers project investigation, recycling strategy selection, pavement design, mix design, and construction procedures. He is a member of the Caltrans/industry/academia expert task group that prepares and updates mix design procedures and specifications for all cold recycling strategies, including CCPR. He is the PI/project manager for ongoing comprehensive Caltrans research on cold recycling, with the current Phase 3a covering CCPR including mix design, laboratory testing, accelerated pavement testing on a test track at the UCPRC facility, statewide long‐term field performance evaluations, mechanistic pavement design, mix design, LCCA, and LCA.
