Graduated in Civil Engineering from the Sao Carlos School of Engineering at the University of São Paulo (1984), master's degree in Transport Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo (1989) and doctorate in Transport Engineering from the Sao Carlos School of Engineering at USP ( 1995). He is currently a Full Professor at the Department of Transportation Engineering at the Sao Carlos Engineering School at the University of Sao Paulo, where he joined in 1988 as a Lecturer. He was a Visiting Professor at the following universities: Texas, in Austin (1992 and 1993), Waterloo, in Canada (Jul / 1995), Florida, in Gainesville (1999 and 2000), Minho, in Portugal (2005), and the Vienna University of Technology in Austria (2008). He has supervised 50 Ph.D. dissertations and M.Sc. theses and published 73 papers in periodics, 4 books and 242 conference papers, mainly in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on Transport Infrastructure, on the following themes: asphalt mixtures (precursor to asphalt-rubber research in Brazil and Superpave Specifications - teaches discipline on these subjects in the Graduate Program at EESC-USP since 2000), systems management (of road, urban, airport and railway pavements and unpaved roads), development of pavement performance models, geometric design and drainage of roads . He has coordinated studies in planning urban transport systems using tools for dynamic modeling of the interaction between land use and transport. Received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University Andina of Cusco, Peru, as a recognition of remarkable contributions to the transportation infrastructure field at international level.
