Track: Featured ADOT Session
SR 88 is designated as a state historic and scenic route, as well as a National Forest Scenic Byway, extending from US 60 in Apache Junction to SR 188 near Roosevelt Dam.
In 2019, the Apache Trail (SR 88) was closed to traffic due to the Woodbury wildfire and subsequent severe storms that resulted in erosion and rockslides.
In January 2024, the Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) tasked the Alternative Delivery and Major Projects Division with mobilizing the necessary resources to reopen the Apache Trail by Labor Day (the end of August). The State Transportation Board allocated $4 million for this effort.
The speakers were key participants who collaborated towards the shared objective of reopening the road. Each participant will outline their strategies and the challenges they faced while working on this ambitious project with an accelerated timeline.
