Roadway infrastructure projects can present unexpected challenges that need to be addressed on tight schedules. It is necessary to be able to identify and deploy solutions in short order to avoid costly delays and minimize disruptions to the traveling public. Data obtained using Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), such as high-resolution orthoimagery and digital elevation models, allow project managers and asset owners to quickly assess deficiencies and develop “quick-build” solutions that facilitate timely project delivery and safeguard public safety. This presentation highlights several examples of quick-build and on-the-fly solutions implemented on roadway improvement projects, showcasing the utility of UAS for expediting informed solutions.
