Wakeel Idewu, Ph.D., P.E. –a native of New Orleans, is a registered engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Master of Science in Engineering Science from Louisiana State University. He also earned a doctorate in civil engineering from Louisiana State University and is a professor at Virginia Military Institute. Dr. Idewu has approximately 20 years of experience in post-graduate instruction, consulting, construction, transportation engineering, and simulation modeling on micro/mesoscopic traffic analysis platforms. He instructs courses and laboratories related to Materials for Construction and Civil Engineers, Traffic and Highway Engineering, Transportation Economics, and Transportation Planning and Evaluation. His most recent work was in the areas of traffic operations, human factors and departure choice, vehicle emissions, and work zone traffic control.
The overall objective in most of Idewu’s research projects is to create/analyze design features and changes in roadway layouts. He looks for ways to implement small changes for a big impact. The broader impact of his research will help improve the quality of commute for the traveling public. Along those same lines, Idewu has begun exploring transportation’s effect on the environmental and economic ecosystems. Coincidentally, his personal undertakings and professional work are one in the same – to assist in helping people reach the destination they envisioned for themselves.
