Dr. Ankit Kathuria is working as an Assistant Professor Gr-I in the Department of Civil Engineering and Humanities and Social Sciences Department at IIT Jammu. Throughout his career, he has undertaken diverse roles, including his current position as Associate Dean for E-Governance System and his previous role as Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Associate Dean (Infrastructure Planning and Management). He received the prestigious SERB-SIRE Fellowship in 2022, allowing him to contribute to significant research related to roundabout safety at the Future Mobility Group, Newcastle University, UK, for six months. Dr. Kathuria did postdoctoral research at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, India. He obtained his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Transportation Engineering) from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2017. He received a Masters in Planning degree with specialization in Transport Planning from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi in 2013 and, holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Civil Engineering from Jaypee University, India. In the realm of research, Dr. Kathuria has led various projects funded by esteemed organizations such as the Ministry of Road Transportation and Highways, Science and Engineering Research Board, National Highway Authority of India, Central Road Research Institute, Jammu Kashmir Science Technology and Innovation Council, and Indian Institute of Technology Jammu. Dr. Kathuria's focus on research is driven by a genuine desire to find practical solutions to various transportation planning and engineering problems. His research encompasses a range of disciplines, including behavioral and psychological aspects of traffic, road safety, public transportation system design and planning, traffic management using BT and wifi sensors, social sciences, data mining, mathematical modeling, and flexible pavements (secondary research area). Presently, he leads six research projects as the principal investigator, aligning with his research interests. In his mentoring capacity, Dr. Kathuria guides seven Ph.D. students. He is grateful for the opportunities to contribute to academic discourse, with over 47 peer-reviewed research and conference papers to his name. Additionally, he is honored to serve as a reviewer for respected journals such as TR part A, TR part D, Accident Analysis and Prevention, Case Study on Transport Policy, Transport Policy, Transportation Letters and Journal of Transportation Engineering. Dr. Kathuria remains deeply committed to advancing knowledge and expertise in the humble pursuit of contributing to the field of transportation planning and engineering.
